CHERISH David Cassidy: A Legacy of Love
2 CommentsGood friend and journalist Louise Poynton who lives over in the U.K. has put an extaordinary collection together of David Cassidy stories by the fans who loved him. She spent many years on this project and it oozes of warmth and heart. Poynton is a backer in the Kickstarter campaign that funded When We're Singin' and she relentlessly promoted our book all around Europe. Now it's her turn. Thanks, Louise, for showing everyone the stories of the fans and doing it so well. :)
Danny Bonaduce Returns Home! 50 Year Anniversary!
Comment50 years later…and Danny’s finally going home!
Danny Bonaduce made a trip over to the Columbia Ranch and took a selfie in front of his old TV home, the exterior of a famous location that has also been occupied by Dennis The Menace, The Kravits’ (on “Bewitched”) and the neighbors on “The Middle,” to name just a few. These days Danny can be found in Seattle with his morning show, “The Danny Bonaduce & Sarah Morning Show” on KZOK-FM. Danny’s been a great friend to WHEN WE’RE SINGIN’ and we’re sending a big shout out to him and his 50-year TV family legacy, “The Partridge Family.”
Happy Earth Day, from The Partridge Family!
CommentIt is not only the 50th anniversary of our beloved Partridge Family but today is also the 50th anniversary of Earth Day, founded in 1970 by our U.S. Government. Since then, Earth Day has come to be celebrated by over 193 countries on this planet. We are nothing without mother Earth, wouldn’t you agree? Regardless of your religious or political beliefs, this is a simple matter of fact. It is our home. It is the one we all share together as the human race. I believe we must take care of it.
Our favorite TV family filmed one of its most famous episodes planned for fall of 1971 and inspired by the values surrounding the newly established Earth Day. Fans will remember the episode about saving the whales, shot at Marineland and featuring Shirley Jones in her most memorable solo performance singing “Whale Song,” a beautiful ballad reminding the world about the danger of the vanishing species.
Earth Day reminds me of our common togetherness. I believe in this holiday with all my being because it celebrates this mutual home. Maybe there will be a day when other planets serve as new homes for us, but I really happen to like this one.
The history of Earth Day is inspiring. It came about as a result of the pollution that began creating disease and sickness during the industrial revolution. During the late 60s when the youth of our country were protesting against the so-called establishment, it was the establishment that got the youth involved in this movement, believing that the health of the planet would also be of interest to the youth who were outspoken about the kind of future world they wanted. Sure enough it united them.
During that period not much united the youth with their parents’ generation who were basically viewed as ‘out of touch.’ Not much united the political parties either. But Earth Day did. We did it! We united! We picked up litter, we planted trees, we nurtured our environment with respect and we did it as a united world. Here we are, 2020, and we face the worst pandemic in over 100 years, maybe even the entire history of our great U.S.A. As bad as it is for us, mother Earth has prospered with clean air and water while we have our own horrid, human experience with this. Maybe it’s a message to all of us who share this great home. Maybe the message is that we are smart enough to find a better way to live the way we want. Maybe we need to do better. I mean, there’s many different plays on a football field to garner a touchdown, right? I hope everyone will do something in honor of Earth Day. Plant a tree, even if it doesn’t happen today. Plant some flowers, it will help the honey bees which we need to survive. Pick up one piece of litter. Imagine if everyone in the world just picked up one single piece of litter how much cleaner the world would be. Fifteen billion pieces of litter is a lot! Maybe just share a picture on Facebook. It all matters. Thank you, everyone on this planet, for uniting in the ways that we do to care about our human home. Happy Earth Day from all of us…. to all of us.~
Interview with Timm McCoy--10 Partridge Family Songs!
CommentSeveral months ago I pre-recorded this interview with Timm McCoy, planned for airing on David Cassidy’s birthday. If you haven’t yet heard it, I’ve attached the link below and I hope you will give it a listen. I was asked to choose 10 Partridge Family songs to discuss, and of course they were all played. These songs will certainly put you in a good mood, maybe relax you a little bit and take away some of the tensions we all face right now. It is one of my favorite interviews so far. I hope you enjoy it. It starts right off the bat with the original theme song—When We’re Singin’. There’s always something special about lyrics that portray togetherness…. Special thanks to Timm McCoy for your hard work and dedication to this great music.
Happy Easter, Happy Birthday!
CommentWhen I was in 4th grade we were learning about surveys. One of the questions on the sheet was to choose your favorite holiday. I chose Easter. Now, what kid names Easter as their favorite holiday? I was the only one, far out-weighed by the winning choice—Christmas. Ahh, but so much of life is about our individual experiences and the perfect timing behind them. It turned out that I had the best Easter bunny on the planet at just the perfect time in my life. My parents would hide so many eggs that it took all day to find them. And I was always a sucker for a scavenger hunt. Between eggs hidden in the creek’s shore to the cornfield’s edge and the dock (and the fact that my dad would re-hide the eggs when we weren’t looking) the egg hunt eventually became a hunt to catch the Easter bunny. “I saw him go around the corner of the house,” my dad would say. We’d go running, only to “just miss” him. But we’d find a new egg in a spot we already visited, so we knew he was really out there with us! Never did catch him though. I always wanted my birthday to fall on Easter. In the 70s I began paying attention to the day of the week my birthday would fall on, because I hoped the Sunday birthday might be the same day as Easter. In 1978 I came close, but no cigar. I pouted. But it turned out that it fell on Grandma’s birthday that year, and she was in her 70s. “You need to be happy for your grandma,” mom said. “She waited her whole life too, so don’t pout. You have a lot of time left.” It would be the only time Easter would fall on her birthday. As the adolescent years passed, my favorite holiday soon became Christmas, but those egg hunts my mom and dad provided stay with me forever. The year 2000 was special for me. My life changed dramatically, and when I wasn’t paying attention, Easter finally fell on my birthday that year. On top of it, my mother turned 70 that year and I was exactly half her age. That would never happen again, and my birthday will not fall on Easter again in my lifetime. Today is David Cassidy’s birthday. He would have turned 70. And his birthday will not fall on Easter again in our lifetime. Somewhere in all of that, I feel a connection. And while we face a frightening time in history together, not knowing how it will unfold, stuck in our house, we can at least share our memories. I’d love to hear yours. Whether it’s a church service, an Easter egg hunt, or chocolate bunnies, it seems there’s always something to share. I’m grateful for that. I miss you, mom and dad. You were the best. And happy birthday David. And happy Easter to all. ~
